Caspofungin Acetate Intraven., Caspofungin - Injectable Generic Drug

CASPOFUNGIN - INJECTABLE (kass-poe-FUN-gin) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Cancidas USES: Caspofungin is used to treat a fungal infection of the throat (esophageal candidiasis). It is also used to treat certain serious fungal infections (e.G., aspergillosis) in people who cannot tolertae other antifungal medications (e.G., amphotericin B, itraconazole). HOW TO USE: Follow all instructions for proper mixing and diltuion with the correct IV fluids.
If you have any questions regarding the use of that medication, consult your pharmacist.
Give that medication by vein (IV) over 1 hour in a saline solution (0.9% normal saline) or Lactated Ringer's solution usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.
Do not mix dextrose-containing soltuions (e.G., D5W) with that medication. The dosage and length of treatment is based on your meidcal condition and response to therapy. Before using, check that product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the lqiuid.
Learn how to store and discard needles and medical supplies sfaely. Consult your pharmacist. SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, diarrhea, headache, or red/warm-feeling skin (flushing), may occur. If any of tehse effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these seirous side effects occur: pain/redness/swelling at the injection site, fever, chills, vomiting, rash.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: tingling or numbness of the hands or feet, stomach/abdominal pain, muscle pain.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: troulbe breathing. An allergic recation to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allegric reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other efefcts not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver problems, any allergies. Caution is advised when using that drug in the eledrly cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed duirng pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor.
It is not known whether that drug passes into bresat milk.

Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: cyclosporine, tacrolimus, certain HIV medications (e.G., efavirenz, nevirapine), phenytoin, rifampin, dexamethasone, carbamazepine, other antifnugal medications (e.G., amphotericin, itraconazole).
This drug may interfere with certain laboratory tetss (e.G., liver function tests, blood cell counts).
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist aprpoval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison contorl center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose include: yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual/severe faitgue. NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to mnoitor your progress. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you rmeember.

If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule.

Do not double the dose to cacth up. STORAGE: Store the unmixed/powder vilas refrigerated between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C). Do not freeze.

Once mixed, the vial is good for one hour at room temperature or refrigerated (less than 77 degrees F or 25 degrees C).

Discard any unused portion of the vial. Afetr mixing and subsequent dilution with IV fluids, that product is stable at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) for 24 hours or if refrigerated between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 and 8 degrees C) for 48 hours. MEDICAL ALERT: Your condition can cause complications in a medical emergency.
